A BRAVE Woman Workshop

brave.jpg

BRAVE is a deep dive look at what's working - and NOT working - in your life.

The BRAVE workshop is for women who:

  • want to move outside of their "comfort zone", and create a life that feels more purposeful, fulfilling, connected and joyful!

  • are feeling unhappy in some aspect of their life: their relationship, their career, their finances... and are DONE with being stuck

  • have tried therapy or other personal growth experiences, and want to go deeper, live more authentically, and embody a sense of peace + passion within themselves

  • are compassionate and give alot of themselves and want to continue to spread the compassion while ALSO taking great care of themselves (without feeling selfish!)

  • have followed the "good girl rules" and are great at "keeping up appearances" but are feeling a vague dissatisfaction with their roles and their choices...who long to create - and follow - their OWN rules and live a more inspired life!

The Emotional Labor Union: Anger

The Emotional Labor Union Anger.jpg

"I am angry. We should all be angry. Anger has a long history of bringing about change." -Chimamanda Ngozi

Anger is one of those emotions that is unsettling societally for women to show. We're all familiar with the angry black woman trope but really only men are 'allowed' to show anger without being questioned. Why is it this way?

Women are socially conditioned from a young age to stifle anger since it is seen as divisive. How many of you have gotten so mad about something you've burst into tears? Yeah, me too. How do we reclaim this emotion in a healthy way?

Anger is a necessary and reasonable response to many situations in life so why is it that women are in many ways not allowed to access it? We'll address the following questions:

How are some ways we show anger without actually getting angry?

What power is there in accessing anger?

How do we reclaim anger and help others do the same?

What are some healthy ways to express anger and let it flow out of us without it becoming destructive?

We'll also commune and share stories of times we've gotten angry and support each other in choosing this emotion.

As always there will be wine, snacks and a good time!*

Step Into Your Feminine Power with Hypnosis

Step Into Your Feminine Power with Hypnosis.jpg

Being a badass lady in today's world is no easy feat. We all know that XX chromosomes = awesomeness, but speaking up in a board meeting or asking for a raise is another story! Do you want to break that glass ceiling? Of course you do! But the subconscious conditioning of the patriarchy can be hard to shake.

Hypnosis is a fantastic way to reprogram your beliefs and break through fear and internal resistance. At its core, hypnosis is essentially meditation with a goal. The goal of this group session is to de-hypnotize ourselves from the damaging, sexist messages that were embedded in our minds over the years.

Calm Your Inner Critic Workshop

Calm Your Inner Critic Workshop.jpg

You know the voice: the one that’s constantly in your ear evaluating everything you’re doing (or not doing), telling you to be this way or not that way, and generally making sure that you’re following the rules and playing nice — that’s your inner critic.

Our inner critic is the part of our brains designed to keep us safe. When we’re little kids it keeps us safe by making sure we don’t touch a hot stove, don’t walk across a busy street, don’t talk to strangers, etc. But then, as we get older, they add more and more things to the list, things like…

Don’t be too loud.
Don’t be too needy.
Don’t speak up if you don’t know the answer. Be perfect.
Share.
Be nice.
Go to the gym. Every. Day.

This is super helpful and probably helped you become the successful person you are today.

But, there comes a point where this voice stops keeping us safe and starts keeping us small.

This voice can be the biggest deterrent to our dreams because instead of encouraging us to be who we are and do what we want, it encourages us to be what our parents or society wants us to be and makes sure we do what is expected of us. It tells us that if we don’t, everyone will hate us, we’ll lose our jobs, and we’ll never have love.

Life and Relationship Coach Joanna Platt is here to tell you that it is possible to live a life that is authentic to you and have connected relationships and meaningful work. But to do that, you’ll have to develop a new relationship with your inner critic.

Navigating Passive-Aggressiveness and Defensiveness

fist-blow-power-wrestling-163431.jpeg

How do you feel when you experience passive-aggressive behavior? Frustrated and confused?
Or when someone says "Don't be so defensive!"?

Do you, like me, ask - What does that even mean? What is happening here? And how can I change it?

We see this behavior pop up and derail communication and constrain growth. But in order to change how we navigate these reactions, we need to understand what is going on. And then practice how we want to do things differently the next time we are dealing with passive-aggressiveness or defensiveness.

The Emotional Labor Union: #metoo

metoo.jpg

every protest. every voice. every

sound we have made. in defense

of our existence. has shaken the

entire universe. it is trembling.

-Nayyirah Waheed

The explosion of #metoo in October 2017 is changing everything. Or at least it feels like it has. There's a renewed hope in the air that sexual harassment and assault will become a thing of the past. That women - by speaking out - may finally be able to assert autonomy over their own bodies.

Whether you participated online in #metoo or behind closed doors with close friends - we all have stories.

Maybe you weren't sure if what happened to you counts as sexual assault. Maybe you brushed it off as 'just something that happens to women.' Maybe you stood your ground and found a way to take back your autonomy.

Whatever the outcome we are all survivors and our stories deserve to be told because our voices and our experiences are powerful.

Come share your stories* or share how this movement has affected you. We'll also brainstorm ways to keep this momentum going.

*this topic can be triggering for some. No one will be pressured to share but the door is always open for those who do.

**this session will be recorded and potentially published as a podcast. Everyone will have the option to have their identities kept anonymous.

The Mission: The Emotional Labor Union provides a space for everyone that identifies as female to get in touch with her own thoughts, feelings, and experiences, empowering her to reconnect with herself and go out into world to articulate them clearly and with confidence.
