Calm Your Inner Critic Workshop

Calm Your Inner Critic Workshop.jpg

You know the voice: the one that’s constantly in your ear evaluating everything you’re doing (or not doing), telling you to be this way or not that way, and generally making sure that you’re following the rules and playing nice — that’s your inner critic.

Our inner critic is the part of our brains designed to keep us safe. When we’re little kids it keeps us safe by making sure we don’t touch a hot stove, don’t walk across a busy street, don’t talk to strangers, etc. But then, as we get older, they add more and more things to the list, things like…

Don’t be too loud.
Don’t be too needy.
Don’t speak up if you don’t know the answer. Be perfect.
Be nice.
Go to the gym. Every. Day.

This is super helpful and probably helped you become the successful person you are today.

But, there comes a point where this voice stops keeping us safe and starts keeping us small.

This voice can be the biggest deterrent to our dreams because instead of encouraging us to be who we are and do what we want, it encourages us to be what our parents or society wants us to be and makes sure we do what is expected of us. It tells us that if we don’t, everyone will hate us, we’ll lose our jobs, and we’ll never have love.

Life and Relationship Coach Joanna Platt is here to tell you that it is possible to live a life that is authentic to you and have connected relationships and meaningful work. But to do that, you’ll have to develop a new relationship with your inner critic.
